Founded by a Pittsburgher and a Rotarian, Hekima Place provides a home and opportunity for education to girls who had neither.  Pittsburgh Rotary has supported Hekima for a decade in a variety of ways and is currently working to secure a Rotary International Global Grant to outfit part of a school. Over eighty girls from babies to university age now call Hekima Place home.

Nicaragua provides free education for its children. One of the requirements for school attendance is wearing shoes. Many families cannot afford shoes for their children.

Pittsburgh Rotary realized that many Pittsburgh area children had many shoes that they have outgrown and would be willing to donate those unused shoes for a good cause.

Over the last five years, we have sent thousands of gently used children’s shoes to Nicaragua.  Our efforts continue to this day.
