    Collected and distributed snacks, non-perishable food, toiletries, and gift cards to help visiting families while their loved ones were in Pittsburgh for medical treatment.

    High school juniors experience a in-residence leadership immersion program at La Roche College.  Working with instructors and coordinated by Rotary the program prepares them for their Senior year success and beyond.

    The chosen student, the student’s parent (s) and a high school representative are invited to a Rotary of Pittsburgh meeting where the student is presented to the Club and acknowledged for their outstanding achievements.  The student gives a brief speech and is presented with an award in acknowledgement of their efforts and future plans for college studies.

    Rotarians provides volunteer support at events, needed supplies and equipment and funds GED testing for students without financial means.  The Rotary also helps with a coat drive and involvement with mock interviews.

    Rotarians refurbished a Learning Center for homeless children living at a shelter in Uptown Pittsburgh; in addition, they provided support for special events and provided needed supplies and equipment.

    Walk on by Art Show – we assisted visitors in making paper houses to display in a gallery downtown

    Hope Through Creativity – we volunteered at the event by handing out fliers and snacks (in a soup kitchen like set up) as visitor made their way to a performance hall where student around the city shared their talent in artwork and performing art. During this event homeless children also gave testimony to their experience and other students shared facts about homeless children in Pittsburgh.

    Stand Up for Homeless Children – living art display of volunteers stood for 15 minutes in silence to bring awareness to the fact there are over 3000 homeless children in Pittsburgh (photos will be sent in next email)

    Hands On! -Volunteers replaced flooring for the playroom at one homeless shelter. (very old carpet with water damage was replaced with wood look sheet vinyl)

    Benefits at-risk youth in Allegheny County (single mothers, girls and boys from foster care).  Rotarians provide mentoring, financial support and hands-on facility/backyard upgrades.

    Shepherd’s Heart serves the homeless and supports a housing program for Veterans.  Rotarians have helped with various needs over the years including the Meager Meal in 2016.  Successfully making a difference in Uptown area where our contributions and engagement meet with great appreciation.

    An annual Holiday Event for Rotarians to engage and become more aware of local charities that work to better the community.  Typical donation is a $1000 to the organization providing lunch to Rotarians attending. In 2017, Northside Common Ministries was the recipient.  They provide temporary housing opportunities, job training, a grocery store for families to help makes ends meet and counseling services.
